Company is aggressively adding new customers, expanding product offerings and entering long-term global supply contracts.

Position:

Manufacturing Engineer - Cost Estimator

Reports to:

Engineering Manager

Purpose:

Prepare detailed manufacturing cost estimates for precision machined components (i.e., Structural Cases, Transmission Housings, Spindles, Struts, Hinges, Swash-plates, Rotating Shafts, Disks, Seals,) in accordance with customer approved technical data

Overall Role:

Analyze customer RFQ’s, blueprints, specifications, and supplemental documentation to prepare labor, material, purchased goods & services, tooling and fixturing estimates for the manufacture of individual components, assemblies and / or entire part families. All estimates are to be prepared in accordance with customer requirements and established company policies and procedures. Estimates will be utilized as the basis for submittal of proposals to the customer.

Qualifications:

  • Hands-on manufacturing experience in a precision machining environment (with components of similar size and complexity)

  • Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation skills required

  • Previous process engineering and CNC programming / machining experience

  • Ability to interpret common RFQ terms and conditions including contract flow-downs

  • High energy, motivated individual who thrives in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

  • Six Sigma or Lean Mfg. experience is a plus.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products Excel, Word and Outlook (ability to use Project & Powerpoint a plus)

  • Strong understanding of configuration management and compliance with approved technical data.

  • Knowledge of broad supplier base for materials, special processes and assembly hardware

  • ERP/MRP systems estimating background a plus.

Education/

Experience:

Position: Director of Manufacturing Operations
Reports to: VPGM
Purpose: Provide hands-on leadership to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and control the daily manufacturing operations required to produce precision machined turbine components on-time and within budget in accordance with quality standards defined within the engineering data package and customer approved technical data.
Overall Role: Plan, flow-down, execute & maintain production schedules aligned with the company sales and operations plan. Recognize & solve problems affecting production including scheduling, staffing, quality, supply chain, EH&S, facilities and equipment. Assign work, provide training, coordinate production personnel and communication between functional departments. Continuously monitor product quality and quality system compliance. Build quality into the product and reduce Cost of Quality (COQ) through process improvement, training, coaching and mentoring production personnel / first line supervision. Drive on-time delivery and customer satisfaction to eliminate competition.
Specific Functions, Responsibilities & Relationships
  • Actively participate in Sales & Operations Planning, helping to set priorities when demand and capacity are out of balance.
  • Work with Master Scheduler to maintain a master schedule that satisfies demand while leveling work being released to manufacturing, optimizing inventory levels and resource utilization.
  • Review daily and weekly master schedules for released orders and compare these to the operating plan to ensure that the master schedule is aligned with S&OP commitments.
  • Flow-down planning & scheduling goals to the work-center, monitor performance.
  • Act as internal educator and consultant on increasing throughput, providing education and training throughout the company to improve company-wide understanding of achieving production quotas within time and financial constraints.
  • Drive root cause identification & investigation, collaborate with Engineering & Quality to assure that processes & products meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Implement key business metrics (i.e., Inv. Turns, SR2, PPV, Sales/Emp., Efficiency to std.) maintain "visual factory" & present status of all projects and metrics monthly to management.
  • Identify, negotiate, and resolve conflicts with respect to material, capacity availability and delivery promise integrity. Analyze and coordinate personnel, capital resources, over-time, shift scheduling and the sequence of production. Monitor production to ensure that it stays on schedule and fix any complications as they occur.
  • Inform management when demand cannot be met and recommend alternatives on how the requested demand could be met.
  • Participate in daily, weekly, monthly planning reviews to keep team informed of any changes or updates.
  • Coordinate initial production requirements with engineering, manufacturing and quality.
  • Pro-actively communicate any scheduling issues and opportunities to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Establish strong working relationship with all company functions.
